Importance and scope of horticulture; Role of fruits and vegetables in human nutrition; Nursery production of horticultural crops; Site selection, layout, planting time and methods for establishment of orchards; Training and pruning methods in fruit crops; Sowing and planting time of vegetables, flowering annuals and flower crops, Types of vegetable garden; seed production in vegetable crops; Landscape utilization of ornamental plants; making and maintenance of lawn; Formal and informal garden, soil, climate requirements, improved varieties, propagation methods, cultural practices, post harvest management and plant protection measures of important fruit, vegetable, flower and ornamental crops of Punjab.
Agriculture, its importance and branches; climate, soil and water in relation to crop production; farm tools and implements; crop seasons; seed structure and germination; phases of plant growth and factors affecting it; classification and relative status of important crops in the state; importance of water to plants; agronomic practices, seed bed preparation, sowing, fertilizer application, weed control, harvesting, thrashing and marketing of important field crops, Land measurements, seed bed preparation; intercultural techniques; identification of field crops, their seeds and important seeds; germination of different crops; depth of seed placement in relation to seed size; methods of irrigation; familiarization of agricultural hand tools and implements; maintenance and keeping farm records, Effects of weather and climate on different crops.
